Additional FAQs

My parent is a MASALA Study participant at the San Francisco (UCSF) or New York City (NYU) study site. Can I participate?

At this time, only individuals whose parents participate in the MASALA Study at the Chicago/Northwestern study site are eligible for the MASALA-2G Study. We hope to open enrollment in San Francisco and New York City in the future. Keep an eye out for an announcement on this page!

Neither of my parents participated in the original MASALA Study. Can I participate?

At the moment, the MASALA-2G program is available only to the adult children of participants from the original MASALA Study. Eligibility for the MASALA-2G program may expand in the future, so stay tuned!

Do I have to live in the Chicago area?

No, not necessarily! If you will be visiting the Chicago area in the future, you can still participate! (For example, some individuals have arranged to participate when they are in Chicago visiting family/friends). We can work around your schedule!

How will my data be used?

Participant data will be collected and evaluated all together to understand the factors that influence heart health. We will not use or publish any individual or identifying information.

What kind of genetic information is collected?

The genetic information collected for the MASALA-2G study is only for research purposes. The genetic data will not be linked with any information that can identify you. All research data will be maintained with strict privacy safeguards. The study team is prohibited from disclosing your data to any entity.
